“STUMBLING FORWARDS” is a sound collage piece in two acts. It glitches, warps, and obsessively repeats samples taken from some of the composer’s favorite jazz recordings to explore textures agnostic of genre. Dominated by incessant percussive elements, the work attempts to create a static yet clumsily-moving forward momentum. When we finally reach tranquility after a tumultuous time, we may find that the things we thought we moved on from are still present and keep disrupting us.
