In my previous compositional work, I would often start from a conceptual framework and then 'translate' it into musical language. While this approach sometimes worked, I often felt that the concept was either underrepresented or overrepresented in the composition, resulting in work that lacked musical expression. For the work on Cradle I decided to start from sound alone, leaving out the 'translation' part.
