Referring to a motif by Friedrich Nietzsche is a sun of one’s own (2018/19; rev. 2022) for ensemble. The title quotes aphorism 320 from Die fröhliche Wissenschaft (1882): ‟I want to create my own sun for myself.” In addition to Nietzsche’s aphorism, another reference level of the piece is Edvard Munch’s painting The Sun (1911), which was, in turn, inspired by Nietzsche. However, Munch’s apotheosis of a radiant sunrise and Nietzsche’s hymnic declaration of individuality are by no means met with radiantly bright sounds in Seyedi’s instrumentation.
