A Part of Us forms part of 'Divergence Suite' – a two-part portfolio inspired by interviews conducted in early 2023 with seven volunteers exploring the lived experiences of neurodivergent people. Stemming from the composer’s aim to understand their experiences of living with ADHD and neurodivergence in more detail, the work explores the backgrounds, thoughts, and opinions of the interviewees on their personal experiences with their forms of neurodivergence, and on the topic and experiences of being neurodivergent in general. A Part of Us was realised as part of the composer's final portfolio of works for their Masters degree at The University of Manchester, composed in the studios at NOVARS Research Centre. A Part of Us was first performed in The University of Manchester's MANTIS October 2023 concert, in Manchester, UK. Thanks go to the seven interviewees with whom I had the pleasure of speaking for sharing their thoughts and experiences with me.
