JULIANA HERRERO (1975) Patagonian artist based in Vienna since 2006. Raised between sea and mountains, she developed a deep connection to nature and freedom that informs her artistic language. She studied art, architecture, dance, and music at INSA (now IUPA) in Patagonia, architecture at UBA in Buenos Aires, and completed her studies in conceptual design at Städelschule, Frankfurt, where she also joined the film class under Mark Leckey’s guidance. Her work evolves from spatial awareness into temporal and site-specific explorations, with a growing focus on visual, sound, and performative formats. Solo shows include: Pequeño Concierto [Hörkabinett], TONSPUR MQ (2025); ONE OF A KIND (2024) and PLAY PLEASE (2023), both in public space, Vienna; on the filaments, there where the plateau rises, sehsaal (2019). Group shows at das weisse haus, Künstlerhaus Vienna, esc medien kunst labor Graz, Maison de l’Argentine (Paris), CCK and Fundación Andreani (Buenos Aires), Kunsthalle LAB Bratislava, Kajaani Art Museum (Finland). Local studio/residencies: das weisse haus (2013–15), WUK (2020–21). Awards include the 2015 Austrian Outstanding Artist Award – Interdisciplinary and the Andreani Foundation Visual Arts Award (3rd Prize). Project funding from the City of Vienna (2018).
