Les adieux de la concubine

Yang Song

Yang Song holds a Doctorate in Composition and Theory from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and has completed her postdoctor there. She also holds a meister's diploma from the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in Germany and has pursued advanced studies in electronic music at IRCAM in France. As a composer and musicologist, she explores transcultural composition in a postcolonial context and the role of digital technologies—including Ambisonics, motion sensors, and multimedia—in transforming musical creation. Her works have been performed by the German Radio Philharmonic, Ensemble intercontemporain, Percussions de Strasbourg, Ensemble Modern, Arditti Quartet, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, United Instruments of Lucilin, Ensemble recherche, etc. Her works have been performed at festivals such as the Manifeste Festival in France, the Gaudeamus Music Week in the Netherlands, the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland, the Shanghai New Music Week, etc. As a composer and musicologist, she is currently focusing on two main topics: how to create music in a transcultural context—specifically, how different cultures can interact within a composition—and how this is reflected in a postcolonial world. Additionally, she explores how digital technologies can transform the process of composing, for example, by supporting the compositional process through Ambisonic systems for spatial sound, motion sensors, and multimedia performance installations.
