Jug Marković

Jug Marković is a Belgrade-born, Stuttgart-based composer. His approach to music is rooted in intuition, embracing an impulsive creative process that resists strict preconceived concepts. His work focuses on the exploration of stylistic contrasts, archaic worlds and reimagining of gestures filled with historical connotation. Jug is passionate about both the large and rich acoustic sound and the boundless possibilities of electronic music. The human voice holds a special place in his work, and as a pianist, he often performs his own music, keeping his connection to the instrument alive at the core of his practice. Among his numerous recognitions are Gigaherz Production Award 2025, ISCM Young Composers Award 2019 and Stevan Mokranjac Award. His compositions have been performed by Ensemble Intercontemporain, Remix Ensemble, Divertimento Ensemble, Mivos Quartet, Diotima Quartet, United Instruments of Lucilin, Neue Vocalsolisten, the Latvian Radio Choir, Chamber Choir Ireland, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, and the Brussels Philharmonic, to name a few. Jug was educated at Faculty of Music in Belgrade (with Vlastimir Traković), at IRCAM (Cursus) in Paris, and at HMDK Stuttgart (with Marco Stroppa). He also holds a degree in archaeology from the University of Belgrade.
